Introducing The Root and Stem, Full Bloom’s Home for Therapist Trainings and Retreats

November 6, 2026  ·  By Becca Moravec, LPC, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor · 4 min read

One of the hours we guard most closely at Full Bloom isn’t a client session. It’s consultation, the standing block where our therapists sit down together with the cases that are stuck, the ones going well for reasons nobody can quite name, and the ones that followed someone home at the end of the day.

The Root and Stem is that room, opened up to therapists across Colorado who don’t work here. It started as a single page and a waitlist. This month it became a full site at therootandstem.com, with everything we can share so far: what it will offer, how the first retreat will run, and plain answers about the parts that are still being settled.

It’s the next thing we’re growing at Full Bloom, and it’s built for clinicians. If you came here for therapy, the short version is at the end: nothing about your care changes.

Why a therapy practice is starting a training branch

Ask a therapist which training actually changed how they work and you rarely hear about the big conference. You hear about a small room, a teacher who still had clients on the calendar that week, and a conversation that went somewhere the slides didn’t.

Rooms like that are hard to find and harder to run, because small doesn’t scale. We already had the main ingredient: a group of clinicians in Denver who consult with each other every week and treat that time as part of the job. The Root and Stem is our way of sharing it without watering it down.

The name is meant to sit next to Full Bloom’s. A bloom is the part everyone sees. It depends on the root and the stem, the slow, unglamorous structure underneath that keeps carrying water whether anyone notices or not. For a therapist, that structure is training, consultation, supervision and, more often than we admit, rest.

What The Root and Stem offers

Trainings and workshops. Half and full days on the topics that come up in consultation again and again: couples work when one partner has quietly checked out, the Enneagram used as a clinical tool, weight-neutral care, and trauma work that has stopped moving. Some will be in person and some online, and each one leaves time to bring a case. If you know us for our Enneagram work, this is where we get to teach it to other clinicians.

Retreats. Two or three nights in Colorado for 12 to 16 clinicians. Teaching happens in the morning. The afternoons are left empty on purpose.

Consultation groups. Eight clinicians who meet monthly and stay together for a full year, from any license and any setting. A year is long enough for people to stop presenting their best cases and start bringing the hard ones.

Supervision and mentorship. Individual and dyadic hours toward LPC and LMFT licensure with an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, plus mentorship on the business side of practice: rates, notes, referrals, and the questions grad school skipped. Our clinical supervision page has more on how we approach it.

The first retreat: Estes Park, November 2027

The first Root and Stem retreat is set for November 4 to 7, 2027, in Estes Park. It’s close enough to Denver to drive and far enough into the mountains that your phone starts to lose interest. Mornings are for one topic taken slowly. Afternoons are for walking, sleeping, or reading something that has nothing to do with the field. Dinner is a long table of people who already speak the shorthand.

Registration isn’t open yet. Dates, pricing and early access go to the waitlist before anywhere else, and the rooms are small enough that they may not make it to a second announcement.

The practical details

  • Continuing education. CE approval is in progress. Each training will say whether it carries credit and from which approving body. Most retreats won’t, because they’re built around rest rather than contact hours.
  • Reduced-rate seats. Two seats in every cohort are held at a lower rate for clinicians early in their careers, working in community mental health, or having a year where the full fee isn’t possible. There’s no application. You email and ask.
  • Who it’s for. Licensed therapists, pre-licensed clinicians working toward their hours, and graduate students in clinical programs. You don’t need any connection to Full Bloom.
  • Teams. Group practices, agencies and clinical teams can ask about a private training at their site or ours.

If you’re a Full Bloom client

Nothing about your care changes. The Root and Stem is for clinicians, and the people teaching there are the same therapists who see clients here every week. That’s deliberate. We think the best teaching comes from people who are still doing the work, and the work gets better when therapists have somewhere to keep learning.

If a therapist in your life could use a room like this, feel free to pass it along.
