Therapy for Men
Most men who come to therapy have been trying to handle things on their own for a long time. Not because they're weak — because that's what was modeled, and because asking for help can feel like it costs something. Therapy is a place where that changes.
What Brings Men to Therapy
Men come to us for many of the same reasons anyone comes to therapy — and some that are more specific to how men have been socialized to carry things alone.
Anxiety and stressChronic pressure — work, relationships, finances — that's been building without a release valve, and is starting to show up physically
DepressionNot always what it looks like in the brochure. Irritability, numbness, withdrawal, using work or substances to stay ahead of it
Relationship challengesCommunication breaking down, feeling emotionally disconnected, or a partner asking for more than you know how to give
Anger and emotional regulationNot the explosive kind (though sometimes that too) — more often the control that costs you intimacy, presence, and ease
Identity and purposeThe quiet reckoning that comes at 30, 40, or 50 — who am I when I'm not performing, producing, or providing?
TraumaMen experience trauma too — abuse, combat, accidents, loss — and are less likely to have had space to process it
Something is off, and you know it. Therapy is the place to actually look at it — not just push through it.
What Therapy for Men Actually Looks Like
We don't have a rigid 'men's program.' What we offer is a therapeutic relationship with someone who isn't going to judge you, rush you, or expect you to perform emotional fluency you haven't developed yet. The work moves at your pace.
Our male clients have included veterans, new fathers, executives, teachers, athletes, and men navigating everything from depression to divorce to the quiet question of whether this is really the life they wanted. No two are the same.
Common Questions
The therapeutic approaches are the same, but a good therapist understands the specific pressures men face — the way vulnerability has been trained out of many of us, and the cost of that over time. We meet you where you are, not where you're supposed to be.
Not if you don't want to. We start where you're comfortable. Some clients prefer a more practical, problem-focused approach initially. The deeper work often follows naturally once you have the experience of being heard without judgment.
The free 15-minute consultation exists exactly for this. Come and ask your questions. If it's not the right fit or the right time, we'll tell you honestly.
Yes. Mark Whitney is one of our therapists who works frequently with men. If you have a preference for therapist gender, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
You've Carried This Long Enough on Your Own
Therapy isn't about becoming someone different. It's about understanding yourself well enough that you're not just reacting all the time. Let's start.
