The Enneagram & Full Bloom: A Long Overdue Website Update

February 5, 2025 · 3 min read

While we at Full Bloom Counseling have always been big proponents of the Enneagram — weaving it into our individual therapy, couples work, and clinical supervision — our old website didn’t reflect it. This post is the beginning of that correction.

What the Enneagram Is (and Isn’t)

The Enneagram is not a personality test. It’s not about putting yourself in a box. It’s a map of nine distinct ways of being human — each with its own core fear, core desire, and predictable patterns of defense and growth. It’s a tool for deep self-understanding and for understanding why you keep doing the thing you swore you’d stop doing.

The Enneagram doesn’t tell you who you are. It shows you who you’ve been trying to be — and points toward who you could become.

How We Use the Enneagram in Therapy

For individual clients, the Enneagram offers a language for understanding automatic reactions, defenses, and the core beliefs that shape how we move through the world. In couples work, it’s invaluable. Understanding that your partner’s withdrawal is Type 5 self-protection — not rejection — can change everything.
